No offense to the Batman discussion posters, but I check this thread in the hope of learning more about the Archives, with the wish that perhaps Bob will be rejoining the board soon, and I feel the Batman topic is cluttering up the proceedings and could even be hampering Bob's interest in returning. Maybe it's time to start a Questions For Bob thread #3...IP: Logged |

Okay I've went through and did a quick scan and tried to consolodate [and edit for brevety where possible] the questions asked and archive/reprint requests since page 11 as best I can. Apologies if I missed a question, but maybe this can give a jump start on the Questions for Bob G part of the thread. quote: Originally posted by Coleo: ...the Newsarama story says that DC will experiment with the $19.95 price on the next couple of Archives that have to go back to press. Any idea which volumes those might be?
quote: Originally posted by Drumore01: Is there any chance the TALES OF THE NEW TEEN TITANS miniseries being collected? With the upcoming animated series, revamped comic, and action figure set coming out, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, and Changeling will be getting a lot of exposure. It might be good to revist their origins (and the Perez art certainly doesnt hurt).
quote: Originally posted by SNW21: ... Since the JSA: All Stars mini-series is coming out in May, why not publish The Justice Society Returns mini-series in TPB format then? ...Oh and if you do decide to put it into a tpb, could you please add the All Star Comics: 80 Page Giant#1, from September 1999. ... 1)Is there any update you can give about seeing the beginning of Geoff John's run on The Flash be in TPB format (this would be the Wonderland storyline which runs from The Flash#164-169) as well as the rest of Mark Waid's Flash run in TPB format? ... 2)Will there be a Golden Age Hawkman Archive coming out? ...
quote: Originally posted by gmp: A few pages back, someone brought up the issue of whether this thread should be used mainly for questions to you, or should it include lengthy discussions as well. I was wondering how you felt about it.As much as I love this thread, it has gotten lengthy, and I know none of us want to burn you out on it. Would you rather enter specific discussions on individual threads, or are you fine with volume of material you're dealing with here?
quote: Originally posted by BL%M: I was wondering if you could let me know if they'res any plans for: 1) The Marshall Rogers/James Robinson LOTDK arc 2) Some of the Doug Moench/Paul Gulacy Batman stories. I think they're 3rd collaboration was called Outlaws. It was a 3 issue prestige format series. I skipped it to wait for a trade. They also did 2 issues of Batman, around issues 393-394. 3) Generations 2 by John Byrne. Again I skipped it waiting for the trade. 4) Also any info about the Neal Adams Batman Book. I know it's planned for 3 volumes. Any rough estimate on frequency or price?
quote: Originally posted by Joe Average: Do you have any plans to attend WonderCon in San Francisco - lovely city, good weather, a bunch of crazy fan-boys. What more could you ask for? 8-)
quote: Originally posted by Rand Al-Thor: Sorry if this has already been brought up, but is there any chance we'll see a Silver-Age Teen Titans Archive anytime soon?
quote: Originally posted by Zero Lad: How about an Ambush Bug TPB? And I'm not talking about his mini-series, either. I'm talking about his appearances in DC Comics Presents and those Action Comics backups which led to the mini-series.
quote: Originally posted by silveragesuperfan: 1.For the eventual JLA/AVENGERS collection (2 years off at the very least?), what are the chances of the original Perez pencils for the unused first version being included in their entirety as a bonus (with commentary if possible)?...I would like to record my vote for a Silver Age Spectre Archives to follow it! It would be nice to include the Hourman back up from that first Spectre run, and Brave & the Bold Spectre issues as well.
quote: Originally posted by Mike Falcon: Bob, could you tell us what was on your list for 2004? It's not like you would be telling us what was on the schedule, just what might be as I'm sure things will be taken off and added to your list even after it's paired down.
quote: Originally posted by NickCoulter: Apologies if I've missed it in the last 40 odd pages of these threads, but I was wondering if there are any plans to continue the reprints of HITMAN? If's Bob has already answered this let me know.
quote: Originally posted by Melkor: Just a quick list of reprints I'd like to see:-Hitman (complete the series!) -Kirby Demon -Captain Marvel "Monster Society" serial -Englehart/Rogers Detective (with covers this time!) -Garth Enns' Demon run -O'Neil/Adams Batman stories -Vermillion (from the old Helix line) -Joe Kubert Tarzan Archives!!!!
quote: Originally posted by Saint Tweedy: ... I just wanna throw in my two cents: 1. Silver Age Spectre Archives- Showcase issues and short-lived eponymous title 2. Dark/Black Flash storylines 3. Emerald Twilight - I can't figure out why DC hasn't kept this in print (with the Guy Gardner issues included). When I worked in a comic store 5 years ago, these were BY FAR the most requested back issues. 4. JSA Archives - 1970s All Star, Adventure, and DC Special issues 5. JLA Incarnations TPB - I know most JL books are reprinted but I havent seen these solicited. 6. Kamandi - Honestly, I'd like to see this in black and white.
quote: Originally posted by Mister Ed: As somebody who hopes to one day complete his collection of GL, can you tell me if the second series will be archived up through at least the beginning of the GL/GA issues? I know you probably can't tell me that at this point, but it was worth a try, right?
quote: Originally posted by Parsifal: Hitman is a topic that I feel deserves revisiting, any vibe towards re-examining that situation Bob?I love the Ennis/McCrea Demon run and as unlikely as it is I'd go crazy for collections. ... So there is a new Starman trade on the way, any clue to content and date?
quote: Originally posted by superboy1988-92:
1) I'm taking a quote from the Newsarama site about the recent announcement regarding the new printing of Batman Archives volume 1 for the reduced price: "The special price for the new printing will only be for initial orders from retailers, while the rest of the volume’s print run (the overprint) will be priced at $49.95. The move, according to ICV2, is to drive high numbers of preorders for the August-shipping book."I was wondering will there be a difference on the UPC direct sales bar code on the new printing's dustjacket for the initial ordered copies from retailers, where it will actually say the $19.95 US/$32.95 Canada cover price, or will the dustjacket still bear the usual $49.95 US/$82.00 Cdn price tag? I remember when DC first offered the remaining previous printing copies of Batman Archives vol. 1 in Oct. 2001 at that $19.95 price, all that was done was slapping a sticker on the book's shrinkwrap bearing the reduced price. Will this be done like this for the new printing as well? Also, just what printing is this for Batman Archives vol. 1 (second or third printing, etc.)? 2) Will Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns sequel, "Dark Knight Strikes Again", be coming to trade paperback this year? 3a) Will there be new cover art supplied for the upcoming new printing of "Zero Hour: Crisis in Time" trade paperback? 3b) Are there more Justice League International collections planned once the new printings of "JL: A New Beginning" and "JLI: The Secret Gospel of Maxwell Lord" are out, or will this be based on sales on how the re-issues sell?
quote: Originally posted by Tim Dini: Could you let us know why in the Dynamic Duo Archive the art credit was given to Bob Kane on some of the stories when it is common knowledge that Sheldon Moldoff did the art.
quote: Originally posted by Osgood Peabody: Just to elaborate on another poster's question - many of us are puzzled by the lack of credit given to Bob Kane's ghost, specifically Sheldon Moldoff, in the Dynamic Duo Archive. I know at one time DC was contractually obligated to credit Kane solely, but I was under the impression that this requirement had been relaxed recently, as other collections (i.e. Greatest Batman Stories, Batman in the '60s, etc.,) had given story credits to Moldoff and Chic Stone. If you can shed any light on this, it'd be much appreciated.
quote: Originally posted by silveragesuperfan: ... When the Spirit archives have been completed, will they have included the following by any chance:1. The 60's Tribune strip 2. The new origin story and two covers done for Harvey 3. The new one pagers and wrap-around covers done for the Kitchen Sink undergrounds 4. Quality comic cover reprints 5. The Warren covers (or new material added then) 6. The Kitchen Sink magazine and comic book covers 7. The Spirit Portfolio contents This would truly "archive" the Spirit material completely, except for convention booklet illustrations. Or perhaps this could be a seperate book in itself?
quote: Originally posted by Scott Nichols: Also, let's not forget: 8. The Spirit Dailies! 9. The Spirit Tabloid (also reprinted in the Treasury)I would understand if some of this material was not included. Wouldn't like it, but I'd understand. Please consider including all story material, i.e. Dailies, Tribune Story, Harvey & Underground stories. It will never happen, but I would love to see all of the editorial material from Kitchen Sink collected and edited into a issue-by-issue commentary and history of the Spirit. It would be a fine reference book that I would snap up in an instant.
quote: Originally posted by James Friel: If we're collecting editorial comment, etc., then also not to be missed are the individual commentaries that Eisner wrote for each of the first 40 stories during the short-lived Spirit Bags project of the early '70s.
quote: Originally posted by monkey: Bob, When can we expect the next Y the Last Man, Fables, and Green Arrow (current series, post issue 10) tpbs? If not definitive, you must at least have some idea of the release months.
quote: Originally posted by TommyYesterday: 1) Given that the "Dynamic Duo" archives combines stories from two different Silver Age titles, is it setting a precedent for other Silver Age archives? I'm thinking in particular of Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen -- maybe there'll be a "Superman Family" Archives reprinting 4 issues of Lois and 4 issues of Jimmy instead of individual archives for the characters?2) A Green Arrow question: Years ago there was a DC digest featuring Green Arrow stories that were tied together with new art and story featuring Green Arrow and Black Canary by Dan Spiegle, as well as a Jim Aparo cover. Is there any chance that this entire digest will be reprinted in a larger format as an "Annual," as a kind of follow-up to the Kirby/Green Arrow annual of a couple of years ago. Memory is faulty, but I don't think most of the material in that digest was Kirby stuff, so there wouldn't be much duplication.
quote: Originally posted by dcexplosion78: I'm sure it's too late now... but any chance the TERROR OF TRIGON PB will have reprints of the covers from Tales of The Teen Titans #60-64 too...there is at least one Bolland cover in there. (Great Bolland cover on GOTHAM KNIGHTS this week, btw. What a collection "The Brian Bolland Covers" would be!)
quote: Originally posted by James Friel: 1) Is DC doing any general acquisition by scanning of material that isn't in its library which may some day be wanted for archiving, but which isn't needed immediately for a scheduled volume? Some folks seem to think you must be doing so, and I'm dubious.2) Should the first volume of Aquaman Archives, consisting mostly of six-page backup stories, prove successful, will that make Green Arrow or Martian Manhunter look more attractive to you or to others in decision making roles as potential Archive candidates?
quote: Originally posted by dreamtime: Firstly, are there any plans for some of Peter Milligan's earlier work? I'm thinking in particular of 'The Extremist', which I believe to be one of both Peter's and Ted McEever's best efforts. It seems to be an ideal story for TPB format.Second, will you ever collect 'The Girl Who Would Be Death'? I realize that Caitlin Kearnin hasn't been a huge success for Vertigo but this story, like the 'Extremist', is close to a best effort. It would probably stand up as a TPB...do you think? Third: In my view some of the best Batman stories have disappeared into the dustbin of history, and these are from 'The Batman Adventures' and its predecessor titles. Granted, there have been some tpbs and the new Dini/Timm work is coming, but I think that a 'Best of Batman adventures', 'Best of Batman/Robin Adventures' would be fabulous (Kelly Puckett wrote what is still, in my view, the definitive Two Face story). With Batman's animated persona in the media spotlight again the timing could be right, and there are some real gems in amongst those stories. Fourth: I notice that you've mentioned the schedule for Hellblazer a couple of times, but have not mentioned the Delano run. sadly, Hellblazer is certainly the most jarring and discontinuous collection that Dc has produced. I can certainly see that demand for a full reprint isn't there, but please finish the Dangerous Habits storyline, if only for the sake of continuity! I think that the better issues of Jamie's could also fill a bridging tpb to bring readers up to the Ennis run (incidentally, Jamie's one-off story immediately after Ennis' run is probably his best). Will you also be filling in the gaps in the Ennis run? What about the fabulous Eddie Cambell storyline? My last Hellblazer question concerns Warren Ellis' run; when his short HB stories are collected, is there any chance that 'Shoot' will make it into the collection?...
quote: Originally posted by TheRay: Bob, any Quality Comics archives coming soon? The Ray? Phantom Lady?
quote: Originally posted by Amentep: Well it has been said before that the technology they have now isn't that great for reproducing someone like Lou Fine's artwork, so that cuts out The Ray, since his first stories were done by Fine. Also cuts out Doll Man [first art by Fine] and Black Condor [first art by Fine]Phantom Lady might be possible, I honestly don't remember what Arthur Peddy's art looked like from the Police Comics #1 reprint but I don't remember it having the fine line work that, er, Lou Fine had. Dunno about Frank Borth or Rudy Palais who did the later strips. Of course PL only lasted 23 issues of Police, and at 6 pages that'd only be around 138~161 pages unless they included PL crossovers in other titles [or somehow the Fox PL stuff]. I suppose they could do the Human Bomb, I also don't remember much fine linework in Paul Gustavason's art. Of course with 58 issues at 6 pages each you'd probably need two volumes [348~406 pages]. I'd buy it, but beyond me I'm not sure if there's much of an audience for Roy Lincoln's adventures.
quote: Originally posted by Bgztl: You know, the Spirit also features Fine work as well as Eisner's. Blackhawk also featured some similar fine line work in some stories. The reproduction seems pretty good to me. I think it will naturally take longer, but it can be done. I truly believe that # 1 volumes of Uncle Sam Doll Man Ray and Black Condor have a market. Probably in that order unfortunately. The sad thing about Doll Man -- one of the strongest cover features of the Golden Age, is that he's almost unknown today. But, I remember back in 1972 when I had never heard of Captain Marvel. . . . I learned to love him then and so did a lot of other fans. The same can be done again if ONLY fans can see them!
quote: Originally posted by aasutton: 1) Are there plans to finish collecting Ennis and Mcrea's Hitman? Surely a work of this quality deserves the full treatment...2) While I've seen your comments that there is some non-Azzarello Hellblazer on the horizon, I couldn't find anything more specific. Any further information you can share on this score?
quote: Originally posted by monkey: I picked up Nightwing Vol 5: the Hunt for Oracle this week. The story was good but it ended on an incomplete note (Canary being taken away by Blockbuster). Why was this done? I mean, the story is obviously not over. If finding out Canary's fate would've meant that more BoP issues had to be reprinted in this tpb, then I can see your dilemma. But why do this in a Nightwing tpb & not in a BoP one? Also, why was this crossover reprinted and not the "Brotherhood of the Fist" which also ran thru issues of Nightwing (but wasn't included in any of the tpbs), Batman and Green Arrow?
quote: Originally posted by CMCINTYRE3600: What criteria are used for picking the "Back 4" covers? What do you look for? It seems that, in the past, DC has made some interesting decisions and some puzzling omissions. Is it simply the ones that require the least restoration?
quote: Originally posted by Schatzie: I read H-E-R-O #1 and it was not my cup of tea (as it read like a Marvel comic), but I sure would like to see a DIAL 'H' ARCHIVE in all it's classic DC glory. What are the odds of a DIAL 'H' ARCHIVE?
quote: Originally posted by davesharon: By the way, here is my latest wish list for DC Archives I would love to see: 1. Bat Lash 2. Hawk and Dove by Ditko/Kane 3. Plastic Man, Plastic Man and Plastic Man 4. Silver age Superman 5. Martian Manhunter from the Detective/House of Mystery titles 6. the Creeper by Ditko/Kane 7. Sugar and Spike 8. All-Star Comics 9. World's Finest starring Batman/Superman 10. Every silver age imaginary tale/story printed. 11. THUNDER Agents 12. Justice League of America

Bob:Has anyone suggested a Robin Archives that reprints Robin's solo adventures in back-up stories from Batman and Detective Comics over the years? Or maybe a collection of the Batman Family series from the 70's? With ongoing the popularity of both Robin and Dick Grayson, I personally think that there would be a market for such a collection. Keep up the good work. James IP: Logged |

Robin was the solo cover feature in Star Spangled Comics from 1946 to 1952. I'm sure any Robin Archives would start there. IP: Logged |

First let me add my thanks to Amentep: Thanks! Second, a suggestion: could we perhaps retire this thread in favor of a Questions for Bob Greenberger 3 thread that would start with Amentep's wonderful summary of questions? This might further entice Bob back to these boards... IP: Logged |

No offense taken as I was only responding to one posters questions to me, but... Bob disappeared a week or longer before the Batman discussion even started, so you can't put the blame for his disappearance on that. Most likely he was turned off by several posters (including D.Stepp)'s bad attitude towards a few posts they disagreed with several pages back.

I can't seem to find the "answers of Bob Greenberger" thread to see if this has been asked or not, so here goes.Given the archiving of The Spirit and if I understand it correctly the reprinting of a lot of Will Eisner's graphic novels, is there a chance we'll also see reprints or Archives of Lady Luck and Mr. Mystic? Bob said there were no plans at this time. But since it'll be 5 years before Sprirt wraps up, there's plenty of time for DC to think about the other features. Maybe we ought to pipe up about this every so often, to keep it in the back of their minds... IP: Logged |

Thanks! I figured it had to be asked before, but like I said, couldn't find the thread with the collection of answers this morning. I agree we should keep reminding them about it every so often, in a nice, friendly manner.

I just came back from I-Con, where Bob Greenberger appeared, and asked him about his absence from the Message Boards. While he could not give detail about why he hasn't been here, he did say that they will be changing the DC Message Boards, and he should be back here about May 1! Also, for future editions coming out this year, there will be 14 volumes out in 2003. Among the committed editions are Atom #2, All-Star Comics #9, Challengers of the Unknown #1 and Spirit #11. There will be an as yet unannounced Silver Age first volume, and he would not tell me what the extra-sized volume will be. Also, the Sgt. Rock Archives #1 was a big seller, and we may see a volume 2 if the upcoming graphic novel is a good seller as well. Hope this is good information for everyone.------------------ "May all of your wishes come true but one, so you always have something to reach for." IP: Logged |
